METAREALISM

Metarealism, a young artistic and intellectual movement that appeared in Russia between the 1970s and 1990s, implies a set of several realities where the lines between the abstract and the material have been erased.
More specifically: There is a reality open to the sight of an ant, and a reality open to the wandering electron, and a reality wrapped up in a mathematical formula. The meta-image is a way of interconnecting these realities, an indication of their growing unity. In the metareal picture, the outer layer, the skin, has been peeled off of space, but no geometrical scheme, no anatomical skeleton (as in abstractionism) has been exposed. The cut passes somewhere in the middle between the skin and the skeleton.
